Visited with Drew Neiman in November. This was one of the vintages we purchased. And although this was very good, we did not enjoy as much as '06 which I thought was spectacular.

This is my first taste of a Neiman wine. I bought two bottles back in 2009 (after we met Mr. Neiman at Caldwell Vineyards), and have let them sit in our cellar. Well, there's at least one thing for sure: the Neiman wines have a reputation for being designed for aging, and it's clearly a well-earned reputation. Going strong for a 2004 Cali cabernet. This wine defines an elegant Cabernet with great structure and presence. Everything just fits well together, and works. When poured, you see a beautiful, deep color, that is nearing opaque. Bouquet is classic, but understated, cabernet, with a background of small spring flowers, freshly cut evergreen wood, autumn fruits and some soft leather. Texture is ever so smooth, but not overly rich. Just balanced. Taste lingers for 30-45 seconds. And the taste: well-proportioned flavors of blue fruits, vanilla, oak, some mint, and good dark chocolate, with almost an overlay of faint, red fruit acidity. As I said, nicely balanced and elegant. I wish I had more than one bottle left. No rush to drink the last one.

This was so good! I wish it wasn't my last bottle. Need to find me some more Neiman.
