  • I've been cellaring this wine for ages, given to me as part of a wedding present. Opened it today alongside a Tahbilk 1998 Shiraz and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much at 24 years of age, but the wine was just superb.
Initial whiff of mild 'aged bottle stink' blew off after decanting (very slight deposit only) to reveal a beautiful mature Cabernet aroma, subtle, complex and still with plenty of fruit. The initial sip while decanting showed it to be quite light in colour and body, as though the fruit may have faded, but as time passed, it grew and flourished into a very fine, medium bodied wine indeed - sweet cedary fruit, long flavour and soft velvety finish. Cork was in great shape and the level high. Another tick for the elegance and longevity of Yarra Valley Cabernet ! Completely ready to drink now - no point to cellar further if you have some.
