  • Pleasantly surprised by how this wine is drinking after 20 years. Slightly bricked color and muted nose, but lovely balanced structure of fruit and acidity. A really pretty wine.

  • Blackberry and sous bois; fine tannin and good length. Seemed very young and think that an hour in a decanter wasn't nearly enough. If I had any more bottles, I'd hold. Brought to State Bird Provisions, SF.

  • Tasted blind, this is the Roux bottling that was purchased on release by Lou. It had a deep red center and red rims. The high intensity nose of cherries rhubarb, dried herbs, and soil developed well with a few houes of air.

In the mouth, this wine was ripe but fine grained in texture. It had light rounded tannin, solid acidity and very good length.

Like many 1996s, this wine still seems a bit young, even after a 5 hour decant. While good now, it may well improve by a point or so with another 5 to 10 years in the cellar.
