  • I purchased this magnum over four years ago and knowing nobody else who really appreciates aged Loire reds, particularly of such humble origins and modest price, sat on this until I finally saw back-to-back meals to pair it with. I feel lucky that though this is certainly into its downslope, my bottle was in excellent condition and drank beautifully. (The cork was in very good condition.) Drank the first night with a hearty vegetable soup and the second with a stuffed eggplant Moroccan-ish style. The wine also drank beautifully on its own, with only slight drying. A nice wine to slowly sip while reading.

Still showing some red fruits and tomato leaf, but folded into an autumnal vibe with the red fruits joined by tertiary notes of leather, turned damp leaves, and earth. Any vegetal elements have become subsumed, decayed into another state.

Excellent QPR at $40 USD for a magnum

  • I'm not one who needs much fruit, it's the other stuff I generally look for, but, man, there is absolutely no fruit to be found here. As others have noted, it's tart with almost all secondary and tertiary flavors. Not exactly a pleasurable experience, but at $20/bottle it's hard to complain. The 2000s I've had have been much more enjoyable.

  • The primary flush of fruit may have long since faded but there were still aniseed and liquorice flavours yielding to coffee grounds. Past its best but the memory still lingered in a fine finish. CHP 88 pts
