I am always interested tasting wines of fine producers which come from their 'home' villages. Domaine Jacques Prieur is located in Meursault.

2009 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru - yellow gold. Opens with orchard ripe fruits, jammy apricots. Develops with honey, bee wax, almonds, some exotic fruits. Pine trees. Citrus. Surprisingly high sharp acidity for this ripe vintage. Oily fat, but not as full and rich like some top of Meursault.

I find this wine by Prieur to be the best expression of this Santenots 1er Cru climat.

100% Chardonnay comes from small 0.25ha plot at the foot of the slope. This east facing vineyard in the northern part of the village has deep soil with alternating friable Bathonian limestone aggregate and brown marl, containing clay and silt, which is more suitable for red wine than white. The red wine that is produced here is sold as Volnay, Les Santenots.

2009 should justifiably be considered a very fine vintage. Like the other vineyards of Burgundy, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise experienced highly favourable weather conditions, bringing ideal Chardonnay maturity. In general, intensely aromatic, generous and soft, these wines are impressively full-bodied and remarkably well balanced.

Vinification: fermented and aged for 21 months entirely in oak barriques. 100% malo.

  • This is lovely. Fat lush ripe tropical fruit flavors. perhaps this is almost a bit to easy going down.

  • Grands Jours de Bourgogne - Meursault and Volnay (Tonnellerie Damy - Meursault): Tasting. Fat fruit aromas and flavors showing lots of 2009 character. Easy to enjoy young, even if a bit simple for Meursault 1er Cru.
