Still ruby core, sweaty, sweet aged amaro earthy nose with tangy fresh tart red fruit on palate. Leather, smoky caramel, rust and autumn leaves and smoky bbq sauce. Hints of celery from time to time. Feels alive and fresh but old at the same time. Almost reminds me of that late 60s Colares I’d had a while ago.

Of all of the ‘74s I’ve enjoyed in my life, I must say that Vietti stands out as one of the top producers of the vintage. The ‘74 Masseria was no different. The nose was remarkably pretty and perfumed with a hint of caramel giving way to dusty soil and sweet spices. On the palate, I found tart red fruits, with zesty acidity and saline minerality. It finished long on minerals, iron and dried inner floral tones.

Vietti Dinner with Luca Currado (Ai Fiori Restaurant in the Langham Place Hotel, NYC): [Double decanted around 8am.] Soft, complex, another stunning wine at its peak. Just goes on and on. Wow.

Mature brick red. Secondary aromas and flavors, but still very structured.
