  • Aged and over the hill. Old cupboard with old tea and tobacco leaves. Still has some sweet fruit but fainting.

  • Bottled breathed for 45 minutes. Drank over 1.5 hours. No formal notes.

Very interesting nose as I've never had an old Dolcetto before. Stinky yet sweet berries with some interesting savoury funk to it.
As expected it was light on the palate but good presence of fruit for a wine that's supposed to drink in its youth. Almost Pinot Noir kind of mouthfeel and weight to it; very smooth on the palate and overall a rather good experience.

  • Fresher than the 82 with more acidity on the mid palate. More cherry berry fruits though weakly showing and dark mocha too.

  • Dim Sum Club goes Japanese (Kingyo, Marina Square): One of a pair, I preferred the 1982 just that bit more. This had a really nice nose too - chocolate, cocoa powder, dried figs and rasins. Very pleasant, really inviting. However, like the 1982, this had thinned out a little as well, and while the palate was somewhat less flat, showing a briight acidity and a silky, textured glide of tannins, I thought the fruit was somewhat more emaciated than on the former wine, leaving just a patina of red cherries and berries moving into a long, smoky, tarry finish. With time though, the midpalate did fill up somewhat with fresh dark berries and cherries so that the wine was actually quite pleasant to drink, the only issue being that it could never quite shake of the hollowness of old-age that haunted the midpalate. Well time to drink up if you still have any.
