Fairly big brambly nose. Quite fruity introduction to the palate—dark berries, a bit of peach and, definitely, fig. However, I would not characterize this one as “jammy.” Noticeable heat—mid- to rear palate--indicates to me that it has peaked—i.e., disintegration that I have noticed in stored wines is starting and, so, the alcohol is noticeable. Today, this is a very good wine. I’m sure that a year ago it was better. I suspect that a year from now, not quite so good.

Well this commemorative bottle lasted better than predicted by others. Very jammy and only a hint of the brown tones that signify the inevitable. Thankfully with the loss of body it had also lost some alcohol which took the edge off. Given it was paired with pizza the jaminess was a benefit. Probably still waited too long.

PnP, pours a dark to medium ruby with slight oranging to clear. Nose of plums, eucalyptus, mushroom, prune. At 14.9% this doesn't seem that heavy, rather this is medium weight characterized by nice acidity, perhaps the influence of eucalyptus trees near the vineyard. The finish is where this one is at, leveling a broad stroke of very dark fruit, cooling mint, slight heat and acidity on a prolonged sensory quaff. Thinning on day two +.

Pop and pour. Strawberry and plum nose. Nice fruit overall, hint of leather, some heat. See how the second tasting goes tomorrow.
