  • Very deep and dark ruby red color with some translucency. Very sweet and heady nose with rich aromas of cooked strawberries, very ripe forest fruits, some cloudberry jam and a hint of cherry marmalade. The wine is rich, full-bodied and obviously very ripe on the palate with juicy and rather sweet-toned flavors of cherries and raspberry jam along with moderate sour cherry bitterness, tart lingonberry tones, some balancing peppery spice and a hint of tannic grit. The structure relies more on the moderately high acidity than on the light yet nicely textural tannins. The finish is very long and rich with quite dark-toned flavors of sweet raspberries, juicy black cherries, some brambly black raspberries, a little bit of tart cranberry-driven red fruit and a hint of earthy spice.

A very ripe and substantial Pinot Noir that is very fruit-driven and quite monolithic for the variety. Definitely for the fans of big and sweet Pinot Noirs - i.e. not me. There is definitely some nice sense of balance and the wine never once comes across as flabby or ponderous, but I definitely prefer tangier and more structure-driven style. Quite easy and accessible effort, but feels somewhat pricey for the style at 26,53€.

  • Pinot Wars: Giant Steps vs. Rippon (The Flying Winemaker, Hong Kong): Darker and more substantial than the 2012 that it was served alongside. A warmer vintage. Plenty of spice to accompany the red fruit (Liquorice perhaps?).
