  • Flat. Uninteresting. It’s well past its prime

  • So, we didn’t wait much longer! We decided to drink this at out NYE dinner, which for anyone mad enough to follow my reviews will know is our biggest wine night of the year. The wine was accompanied by Carabineros a la plancha, which was perhaps not the perfect mix. This bottle was a bit less of everything brilliant in the previous bottle, but still worth the score. A lovely start to our Australian wine night with Spanish food.

  • Folk who follow my reviews, if such people exist, may have noted that over the festive period we have been opening some of our more mature stock. Hence several reviews have started with the phrase, “nervous anticipation”. Well here was another with no reviews for over six years on CT, but again, thankfully, the wine has produced. Yes this wine tasted mature somehow but with none of the issues that ageing can bring. There was a lovely balance; oak was present, I think the wine was barrel fermented, but not overly so and there was a beguiling mix of ripe fruit (pear) and oaty toast. I see no reason to wait any longer.

  • From memory from opening(a touch too cold) on a wet & wintry July night somewhere amongst the hills of the Otways.

As we sat in front of the open fire, the wine shows great intensity as it comes up to temperature. Lean and elegant to begin, it really starts to show its richness as she warms. Plenty of length and complexity. The wine seems to have increased in weight, becoming almost full body. So much going on my perception keeps on changing as I drink.

Good heady stuff. Look forward to the next bottle as I still have a few unanswered questions...
