  • The color of purified butter. A nose of apple pie, pie dough, mineral, hazelnut. lime and smoke. Much the same on the palate with apple slipping in at one time, pie dough another. The lime is more on the mid-palate than the attack. Smoke and hazelnut weave out the finish. And the mineral? . . . it appears all the way through. The subtlety and nuances in this remind me of why whites are so interesting. The acidity of the wine is not as sharp as it probably should be. The wine lacks the focus that it once had. Despite all the harsh words about the ‘97 vintage and the fall from favor of this producer, I enjoyed this wine exceedingly. 13.5% alc. With grilled lobster alternatively dipped in lime infused clarified butter or covered with tarragon and lime butter. Highly Recommended.

  • Tuesday, September 24, 2002 A deep yellow color, like ripening wheat. The bouquet included very floral, apple blossom notes, and toast and butterscotch. The flavors continued to evolve: beginning with lemon custard, some hazelnut, mineral, (apple butter?) and white pepper. Eventually, some toast and butterscotch notes appeared, but nothing heavy. All concluded with a faint taste of anise on the finish. This was a wine of delicate flavors and nuance. Sufficient fruit is present but it is delicate in flavor. Acidity and alcohol (13.5%) were fairly balanced. Good mouthfeel. With herb butter and fennel roast chicken (cavity stuffed with rosemary, sage, onion, lemon and carrot).
