  • Is this bottle in the twilight of its years? I guess that depends on what one is looking for.

My immediate sense was that the bottle was autumnal - or worse, on the downhill and certainly past its best. It tasted more like an Amarone than a Pleiades - at least the Pleiades of my memory (and I've drunk many, over many years). Yet there was no sign of bricking, the wine was a clear garnet red (though, again, no copper edges at the meniscus), but the aroma was that of a wine that has seen heat. Not exposed to heat since I've owned this bottle, I can assure you, and I've owned it since release, almost 13 years.

As I drank it, the memory of Amarone and/or Brunello became increasingly pronounced, and with that, it struck me that I should have expected this, since the principal grape in this particular rendition of Pleiades is Sangiovese.

The fruit is still very present, and the tannins are fully resolved. The wine is powerful, rich, and spicy. And, it's everything one could ask for in a mature wine.

I think it's time for me to go deeper into my cellar for the gems that Sean made and taste them to further understand how these wines have evolved. That being said, I miss the primacy of their taste when young.

  • This is a lovely, savory and tad sweet red. Quite pale in color with bricking. Next day was still quite lovely. Pleiades is truly the mutt of the wine world. I have never been disappointed in a Pleiades and have been drinking them since the beginning.

  • Lovely, ligt, clean and delicious - just not awe inspiring. Largely agree with CSOMERS12 and CANNYM reviews. Very light color, initial nose like a pinot noir with strawberry. Coconut, black tea, and rose. Didn't pair well with italian cheeses or a blue cheese. Went a little better with dinner.

  • Initially this seemed a bit oxidized and was on the way down hill, but oddly it picked up a bit of steam and filled out with exposure to air. Interesting, but I've had much better versions of this. They seem to be at their peak around 1-2 years after their release.
