We enjoyed sipping this before going out for the night, but cannot give a strong rating as it seemed a bit nondescript. No prevailing aromas or flavors.

Nose and palate contain some pinotesque funk. However, this is a rich, ripe, full bodied and mouth coating Syrah. Some acidity is present, but thankfully this wine’s firm tannins keep it in check. It’s certainly an in-your-face style with each sip to be savored. Outstanding.

Decanted three hours and paired with BBQ chicken, grilled mixed veggies, and sweet potato. Dark, sappy purple color. Nose hits with funk, grilled meat, and cherry licorice. Strong fruit of tangy raspberry, ripe cherry, smoke, and tobacco on the mid-palate give way to a dusty but workable finish. Well integrated wine almost five years out. Not really complex but solid. Can go another five years or so but good now with summertime food.

The Semicentennial Birthday "Season"; 9/16/2012-9/18/2012 (San Francisco and the Napa Valley): Opaque ruby in color, this wine offers a somewhat straightforward but very pleasant nose of assorted black fruits and potpourri. Full-bodied on the palate, with low-to-medium acidity, medium sweet tannins, well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.3%) and black fruit flavors. The middle is solid, with a silky mouth texture. The smooth finish is medium in length. Hard not to like this wine, although do not look for too much complexity (now or in the future). Enjoy it for what it is...a wine which should pair well with food and not require too much thinking. Drink now-12/19.
