  • Cork was in pretty good condition, just 1/4 of it was wet.
Color dark red with a hint of brown at the rim.
In the nose blueberry, wet earth, sweet red fruit, a bit mushroom, aetheral, forest floor.
On the palate quite polished entry with fine -grained tannins, again mushrooms, blueberry, red fruit. On the midpalate lacking a bit depth and structure. But minerality, acidity with an aetheral note take the lead again. The aftertaste is aetheral and slightly astringent with some sweet fruit in the background which is interesting. Long aftertaste.

Even the Villa di Capezzana is known for good aging potential but for a 33 years old wine pretty astonishing. Would have expected less fun.
    Nice experience!

  • Decanted one hour. Cork 80% wet. Served as second wine with BBQ'd steaks. Carmignano granted an appellation in 1716 by Grand Duke Cosimo the Third of Medici. Think of Chianti with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine was smooth, still a little fruit but mostly tertiary notes. A bit of heat on the finish.
