  • ....and time did ! The wine turned (and for the better). 4 years ago I had the impression of a dancing wine not knowing how and in which direction to develop. Now it is clear: it has become s very focused, dark,
deep, good fruited....just delicious wine. Tannins still strong, smell and
taste without any signs of overripeness now. Strong indications of
developing in direction Grand Cru Classé in terms of quality and price.

  • The nose is exposed to a light smell of overripeness which I did not expect from this vintage and the moderate 12,5% alcohol.
Elegance is not the strong point, but power of fruit and deepness. Haut Condissas-Prestige is a special cuvée of Chateau Rolan
de By (cru bourgeois) and about double priced, which means a level of some good crus classés. At the moment this wine for me
is too blockbuster-like - may-be time can modify that.

  • Brought over to my place by Alex. Served blind, I thought it was a bit modern, especially on the nose, but still clearly a Medoc. Lots of dry undergrowth, tobacco leaf, licorice and cassis when poured straight from the bottle, but after some decanting, I also got notes of green leafiness, capsicum, and more sweet tones - both from fruit and oak. Fiona remarked that it smelt like a Blackforest cake, which I thought was spot-on. Some smokiness was wreathing around as well, along with a touch or two of alcohol. The palate was a lot more Bordelais though, very clean, rather lithe, with flavours of cassis, tobacco and smoke. Still very young, with fine structured tannins, rather grippy, and lots of acidity. Lots of extract, but very 1998 left-bank I thought, rather marked by a certain leanness on the palate and a clean acidity. Finish was decent, marked with firm tannic grip that showing the youth of the wine. Not bad at all, just a little too modern for my taste.

  • Once again, a very sweet cassis and sweet ripe plum nose with lots of tobacco leaf and dark chocolate. This time round I do get some capsicum. Some beefy nose as well. Essentially still a v parker wine but none of those OTT aussies. This , although sweet and ripe on the palate, is definitely more restrained and has a clean bright finish. At the end, the tannins do show. Probably needs some more aging.

  • Robust nose of dark violets, ripe plums and plastercine backed by pain grille, oak and tobacco chocolate. Big weigthy dark fruits nicely accented by exotic wood spices. Big but still beautiful. Feels like a margaux. A non OTT parker style wine.
