  • MD & I always enjoy this as our go to special table red for ordinary occasions. A wonderfully diverse bottle that pairs well with spicy italian tomato based dishes or homemade pizza or as in tonight Krainer garlic sausages with onions and peppers.

  • Boosting the score a lil on this taste. The nose is really starting to open up, especially with air. Smells real good now. The nose reminded me a little of some 10-15 dollar Cali Cabs, but better. I think this is a good wine for some basic Cali Cab drinkers in general. It isn't as fruity, not by a longshot, but the texture and structure are a good match, with the Tannat providing tannins and the Merlot softening the Tannat's blow and adding fruit.

Palate is still a little tart and tight, but starting to come together. My favorite bottle of this stuff was an 08 that I drank in late 2011. This is the rare 10 dollar wine that can really benefit from some cellar time. Probably best drank from 2014 til 20??

  • Not as good as the 2008, although I drank the 2008 a little older than I am drinking this one. The 2008 was one of the best 10$ wines I have ever had. This is nicely structured and has solid aromatics but is too austere. Has an enjoyably spicy finish.

  • I thought we were well rewarded for giving this a chance. As soon as we popped the cork, we knew it was just a little different in both aromas and flavors. There was bright black cherry, with steely vanilla, caramel, and lead pencil. This is not an awesome wine, but it is very good. The color is inky red. The nose is sharp and focused, especially the black cherry. The fruit profile is unlike anything I have tasted in several years, with vanilla coated black cherry, lots of mineral, that is more like iron ore than lead or steel. More than medium bodied. A little creamy. Enough tannins and acid to keep things interesting . This is a serious wine, with some unique flavors, that is quite reasonably priced. I think this wine has the potential to develop in the bottle. I can see some very interesting secondary, and tertiary flavors on the horizon.
