Deep garnet color without purple edges, however, there is no orange or brown color to the wine. Long legs. Some red fruit and earth in the nose. One the palate the wine is full but the fruit is followed by a sharpness which then fades to a dull finish. Althought hee may have been good fruit, it is not well balanced now.

Having bought this on "clearance" for under $15, I'm pretty sure this has been pegged by someone as an "over the hill" wine. While I think that's probably the case, there is still a ton of solid flavor in the bottle. Color is dark & rich, starting to show a little bricking. After a short decant, the nose shows blueberry, smokiness, and baby powder. Entry is smooth, continuing the blueberry and adding licorice before finishing with earthiness and dark fruits.

Drinking at a high level now. Deep, rich magenta color, a touch of burgundy-plum at the edge. Ripe blueberry nose and chinease 5-spice with a dark, smokey richness. A wonderful, slightly barn-yardy aroma mixes in with it that almost reminds me of old french oak flavors in higher end Napa Cabs! Rich and full mouthfeel. No tannins what so ever yet the fruit is still distinct without a hint of age or plum flavors creeping in. Finish is really smooth and long. It's actually truely velvety. I have not had a Santa Barbara area Syrah taste anything like this gem in years. I think it will drink this good thru the year.

Past it's prime... but still very good. Dark with complex fruit, tar, and licorice.
