  • Deep-ish gold in color; dark for its age, but not browning. Nose leaps from the bottle on opening. Rich tropical fruits with the oak just showing. Full and rich on the palate which echoes the nose though with more complexity than expected. Smooth but very present acidity -- cries out for food -- and nice almost warming finish. Oak is discernable, but subtly so (that [white] pepper others have noted; just as i like it. While it would not fool anyone into thinking it was a red, it does surprise with a complexity one would expect in, say, a white Rhône. I am enjoying this excellent winter white with a chicken pot pie. A rich lobster dish -- thermidor, anyone? -- would go nicely, as well. Enjoy now or within the decade if taken care of.

  • Spicy, almost black peppery with enough richness of flavor to pass as a red in a blind tasting.
