  • "Blanc de Noirs" with a 13% portion of white Chardonnay? Mmkaey.

Very pale color. Fresh and mineral nose with notes of green apples, Cava toastiness, creaminess and a touch of french bread. Not dominated by powerful, brooding Pinot; instead fresh, crisp apples and light citrusy notes on the palate. Mousse is light and soft yet persistent, contributing to the creamy body. Nice, subtle and elegant bubbly with mineral and citric overtones. The wine finishes with minerality, acidic crispiness and appley notes. Overall the wine seems balanced and elegant, but at the same time probably excessively subtle, even shy. Here in the Finland, Reina Maria competes with the least expensive Champagnes price point-wise, and to me, it performs better than most of them. However, at 18,98€, this is quite an expensive buy: one can find wines of equal quality at notably lower price, whereas the wines that are only marginally more expensive can offer markedly better bubblies. This is an ok alternative for those who look for something elegant non-Champagne from the lowest Champagne price range. Probably fares better on its own rather than with something to eat.
