Dinner at Hermosa (Chicago, IL): Quite earthy, especially for Chambolle, and the fruit feels a little out of focus here. A moderate herbal note on the nose as well. The palate is a bit burly right now -- like the 2009 Jadot Chapelle alongside, it feels like this is in an awkward spot right now. Upside from here.

Hard to know if it has reached a peak. It has always been subtle. It’s a well made wine with most everything in balance. Understated, but beautiful. And definitely Chambolle.

Chambolle Southside 1er (Zoom / Chicago): 09/10 Terrific wide-open nose with so much floral, spice and mineral accents to the ripe fruit. Fully approachable with precise details of mineral and floral accenting the rich (but not ripe fruit). The rare instance where I've found the 09 to be more balanced and ready than the 10.

Chambolle Musigny "Southside" 1er Cru Tasting (Chicagoland IL): In Feusselottes flight. Rich red cherry and berry with spice, mint and roast beef notes. Clearly ripe, but also wonderfully balanced. Tonight was the rare case where a wine's 2009 vintage was preferred over the 2010.

Early in its drinking window but clearly in it; I would echo the last note. Lots of red berry character, but noticeable earth as well. Very enjoyable today, with soft tannin in the background and the right amount of acidity, but I think it will lengthen out a bit more over time and perhaps add a touch more complexity. Some Chambolle character but reminds me a bit more of a Nuits St Georges.
