This is such a good wine. Round, balanced, aromatic. Full bodied without being ripe. Youthful levels of fruit and acidity, but the tannins are very fine. Alas, I only recently discovered Buty. It seemed fitting to open this bottle, then. after the announcement that this winery is closing this month. Looking forward to opening the remaining bottles I have.

This seems to be in a dormant stage at this point. Even with a double decant and an hour of air time the nose was quite withdrawn even with a lot of swirling. Some notes if dark cherries, dark plum, some vanilla oak notes, a touch of dried herbs from the Cab franc are quite apparent. In the mouth the flavors are similar with good acid and mineral backbone. Grippy tannin that are a bit more than chewy went well with a hangar steak and thin pub fries. The chimchurri sauce accentuated the herbaceous nature of the wine.
Still I would prefer to let my 2 remaining bottles to age more to see the tannins and acid resolve a bit more and allow the reticent florals to emerge more. We had this side by side with a right bank Bordeaux and a Milbrant Merlot which was much more in a primary stage. I wish I had opened a bottle a few years back as this probably had a very good primary drinking window. For now I will hold out for the promised second and tertiary development. Plenty of stuffing and I could see this gaining a few more points overall. Possible 91-93 down the road.
I'm certain this would have been great on a second day, but we were in a restaurant with plenty of people trying different right Bank blends.

(Buty 58% Merlot 42% Cabernet Franc Columbia Valley) An aromatically appealing wine with espresso, leafy herbs, and dusty cherry. The palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied, tart and spritely with soft cherry flavors and a zip of tangy acidity. A bit angular and showing its youth initially, it ramps up in intensity each minute after being opened. Give one to two years but has a long life ahead of it. 58% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc. Conner Lee (95%) and Champoux vineyards. Aged 14 months in French oak (50% new). 14.3% alcohol. 220 cases produced. Sample provided by winery.

I failed to take notes, but I found this enjoyable. I recall it having nice dark fruit, nice texture and density. It also had an element of salinity.

No notes, but very nice & ready to drink; no rush. The cab franc makes this wine.
