Somewhat underwhelming. Oak is a noticable feature, while the damp earth and sage one might expect takes a back seat. Raspberry fruit is holding up well. Doesn't have the peacock tail finish, in fact seemed a bit unintegrated on the palate, though the texture and weight are spot-on.
One of the best Pinots I've had in a while; very nicely balanced--good fruit and good depth with a very nice long finish. Had with grilled porkchops, pasta and grilled veg--it was an excellent meal...wish I had a case of this stuff.
At Auberge Napa with friends, really special evening. First red, recommended by the somm Elizabeth. Single Vineyard Pinot from Sta. Rita Hills, small rpoiduction (I undersand Hall owns the label now). perfumed, herbs, red fruit, baking spice. Smooth Burgundy-like mouthfeel, restrained, fruit forward but still elegant. Drinks well now but should cellar for a while - not sure it improves much
Really nice Pinot from Califnia - example of how it doesn't need to be overdone even with the CA fruit...
