Drunk for lunch with roast beef sirloin. 14%. Dark opaque bright ruby. Intense nose dark fruits with blackberry, mulberry, black cherry and plum. The palate was slightly more muted than the nose and had some earthiness and spiciness as well. Nice length and balance with some tannin still evident. Overall the wine had a lightness to it which made it seem younger than its 14 years. Perhaps not quite the evolution to make it a really ‘great’ bottle but still wonderful, with plenty of time ahead of it.

A brilliant, provocative wine, and a fascinating contrast to the 2011 I enjoyed last week. A touch more primary than its younger brother, leaner, with a green streak that lessened with air and ultimately served as a great counterbalance to the bright red fruit, licorice and savory notes.

Bottle opened day before. Deep extracted with loads of red and black fruit. Some tar, earth, cedar , followed by elegant notes of cassis , currant, Stone miniral, spice, tabacco, broody but elegant.
Silky tannins mingle with spicy hints of cocoa, chocolate, some spicy tannins mid palate. Tart sharp cherry and spice finish lingers nicley.

Some Italian Wines (Plus Ringers) to Welcome a New Restaurant to Town (Nella Kitchen & Bar, Los Olivos, CA): Beautifully mature, and firing on all cylinders. A savory wine, with bright red fruit and licorice notes in perfect harmony. Amazing quality for an "entry" blend, even more amazing for its ageability -- I could see this going another 5-10 years. Serve at cellar temp.

Really earthy and grippy, red fruit and spices. Fresh, a bit dusty, ok length. 87-89
