Vacation Wines: Pride, Matrot, Owen Roe, Two Hands, etc.; 8/7/2011-8/15/2011 (Family Beach Cottage, Scarborough, Maine): I believe this vineyard in now named Crawford-Beck. Clone 76. Mature, medium yellow/gold. Clean and bright. Initial nose of roasted nuts, flowers and a touch of honey. Still quite fresh and lively on the palate with citrus, orchard fruit and a hint of minerality. While not particularly complex or profound, this wine deserves praise for its longevity. Drink up.

When first opened, this was so tight and acidic that I could barely drink it. A nose of melon and green apples, with some nice minerality. Very tart and acidic on the palate, about 30 min into the bottle, and still showing a lot of zing. Taking my time with this one...After 2 hours, has become much more buttery on the nose, with the same zingy acidity and fruit on the palate. Going to cap this one and revisit tomorrow. Day 1 rating: 85
Day 2: This is starting to smooth out now. Still very nice notes of melon and green apples, but the tartness has mellowed out, and acidity is not quite so harsh. Day 2 rating: 87

This seems to be aging at a glacial pace. Really complex and deep but still a tightly wound spring that only started to show after about 3 hours. If you own any I would suggest trying it in another 2-5 years.
