Another Wine Slog Across France; 11/2/2019-11/13/2019 (Paris, Alsace, Burgundy, Encore Paris): Medium yellow-phenomenally light for its age! Mellow, low pitched guava and faint stone fruit nose free of botrytis and no petrol. Medium weight, beautiful texture, just off dry, laid back, pristine fruit in the same register without ANY hint of oxidation or decline, excellent acidity, and a strong vein of soil on the finish. A Trimbach style Vendange Tardive which is way more discrete and less flamboyant than many producers' current regular cuvées. How can this possibly be so youthful, as if frozen in time? A memorable bottle. Looking back at my notes, I see that I've had the good fortune to taste this twice before since 2012 and that on all 3 occasions, the wine was sensational. Pretty spectacular consistency for a white wine of this age.

Alsace Riesling: A complex nose of white brad crust, toasted bread, dried apricots and spices. There's also pepper on the nose and palate that makes the wine more concentrated and hot. A nice, mature, concentrated dry white wine. There's a side of lively, sweet fruity notes to this wine as well. Excellent.

Mainly Pinots Dinner with Peter Rosback: Both wines deeply coloured, showing their age. A whiff of kerosene, with aromas of toffee apple, citrus and rock melon. Complex and secondary. On palate, I was thinking this wine was from the 1990s. Amazingly fresh and vibrant. Seemingly lower in acids. Very clean. Glycerol and palate coating. Serious structure but seamless and beautifully poised. Finer than the Hugel. Some people's WOTN. Excellent and still years to go!

Drank beautifully. Gasoline on the nose though not objectionably so whatsoever. Sugars seem to have softened though still present. Wonderful acidity and balance. Drinking very well

Notes of petrol and unripe peach with a subtle plastic undertone. Sweet melon and petrol flavors with stone fruit on the finish.
