2011 Shafer-Frohlich Halenberg Grosses Gewachs (19 12) 13% abv Out of a Burg stem. Blue slate and quartzite. Pale yellow. There’s a beautiful spicy nose here - salty lemons, gardenias, apricots. The palate has a graceful texture (which I think is buffered by maybe 6 g/l RS?) but it’s clear as a bell. With a couple of hours of being open - after we had run through all the wines and were going back this picked up some surprising Scheurebe catty/cassis-pink grapefruit aromas and flavors.

What a fantastic Riesling GG. Yuzu lemon, mineral aromas straight after opening. Great length and acidity. Pear, peach, intense fruit, also on the second day of drinking. You can taste the warm year on the second day a bit more. But still good potential to cellar. 5+ years

Vacation wines; 6/27/2023-7/6/2023 (Hotel Sonne, Partschins, IT): Glass: Spiegelau Universal Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Wonderful smoky, mineral and multi-layered nose. On the palate wonderful balance and harmony! Ripe, dense fruit, Halenberg smokiness, beautiful grip, great mineral core. Medium+ acidity. Complex and multi-layered, long fruity finish. Starts reaching its full peak. 94
blind Detected it as Schäfer-Fröhlich, spicy, some yellow stone fruits, a lot extract sweetness, still very young#. 5-7 years ahead. Better than Halenberg from Emrich-Schönleber in the same flight. 94
