A surprisingly dense and grippy Reserva, made from old Sangiovese vines at low yield with no fining or filtration. Dark berries pervade, with a noticeable charcoal and leather smell. The wood is present but austere for a Rioja with none of that sweet coconut of American oak - I guess old French barrels. Pretty full bodied blackberry fruit and savoury, meaty to taste, unusual but a pleasant change as a modern Rioja style.

A huge improvement compared to the previous bottle I had three years ago. Fairly light and elegant but really long and complex.

Same notes as last time, but even more enjoyable.
