  • Opened, double decanted -not ready to drink after two hours.Put the cork back in, and pulled it out the next night. Drank exceedingly well over 2 1/2 hours -deep, plush dark fruit flavors - plum, prune, black cherry.

A beauty, and great example of “old style“ Napa, winemaker driven Cabernet. A cut apart from today’s homogenized, in your face, Napa Cabernet style.

  • Earthy undertones developed into a complex and aged dark fruit root system. This wine aged perfectly and displayed great characteristics from this benchmark Napa property. Well worth the wait in the cellar...truly a treasure.

  • This is consistent with prior tasting notes - one of the best back vintage bottles i've consumed from Merryvale and the beckstoffer offering. Sight: slightly browed garnet with good rim variation. Nose: cool mint, Bordeaux leather, tobacco, marjoram, touch of tarragon and mushroom, umami, truffles. All secondary fruit/etc. Palate: Confirms nose flavors and picks up on soft strawberry, raspberry, cut cherry, tobacco, mushroom. Very impressed by the balance of this wine. Absolutely perfect sophisticated palate weight on the tongue and balance. The alcohol has come off this wine nicely although still rich, the tannins have mellowed but present and the acid has helped to keep this balanced as it’s aged. As mentioned in prior notes, this is the best of the 00, 02, 03 vertical I've tasted. This wine has evolved into a wonderful old world style Bordeaux blend and something really soft and special. Would drink now, again, dried cork on this one.

  • Such an impressive wine from such an unimpressive vintage (85 pt WS vintage). Cork was dried (was stored perfectly but came out dry and broken in two pieces). Wine was fine, though. color was beautiful garnet with a little bit of rim variation from age. big Bordeaux style nose with elements of red roses, violets, dandelions, herbal notes of mushroom, rosemary, cool clay, dirt and just a little bit of barnyard. The nose transitions nicely to confirm on the palate elements of the clay, milk chocolate, sharp raspberry and cool cherries. The fruit had come off here just a little bit and was showing the nice secondary flavors of darker berries. The palate weight just really sings of this terroir - so soft and light but packs a huge punch of juice, heat (maybe a touch hot), acidity. the tannins are meaty, round and very much alive. This bit right through homemade spaghetti and meatballs in a very rich sauce. This was a 2 hour decant and after about the 3rd hour started to roll over just a touch as we entered into tertiary elements of bubble gum sweetness, apricot, touch of cooked cantaloupe and some other sweeter melon flavors. Very interesting. still held the fragrance of cool mint, marjoram and meaty terroir though. This wine is rocking - no rush on these, should lay down nicely. check your corks on these, though. This is by far the best of the vertical I have 00, 02, 03) check your corks on these, though.
