This bottle was given to me by a friend for my birthday. So, appropriately, we opened the bottle last night for my birthday dinner. This is from the California Temecula area. I had not heard of the vineyard or the wine, so I entered this adventure completely blind.
Upon opening there was a muted fragrance of roses and cherry. Quickly, upon pouring, the aroma opened up slightly to a pleasant bouquet of floral, sage and cherry. Solid dark purple-red in color with medium legs increased my anticipation of flavor. This is a simple yet flavorful wine. The palate is well balanced with good texture. This juice revealed flavors of plum, raspberry, soil and a hint of five spice. Tannins were light and nearly nonexistent. The finish was enjoyable, yet short. It is drinking well today, but I feel it is already near its prime. Not a wine to age in the cellar. Buy it now.... Enjoy it now.

Big and jammy. Lots of dark fruit and cedar. Not getting the smoke others have mentioned but maybe that's hidden by the 15% alcohol. Drink in moderation!

The wine has a deep Ruby-colored appearance. The legs are medium. It smells like black currant (cassis), black pepper, and nutmeg. It tastes like black pepper, oak, and blackberry. It is full-bodied with a round texture. The wine finishes long with a more berry-like finish.

Smoked meat typically of a syrah. A little acidic.
Purple colored. Medium body.
