  • Color: Full gold.

Nose: Explosive manzanilla nose that you can smell as soon as the wine hits the glass. Assertive and phenolic, with strong iodine and seaweed notes coupling with the savory flor. Still a bit reductive at first too, I think, giving a smoky, tarry sensation. With lots of swirling and agitation in the glass, the richer, nuttier side starts to present itself, with a distant whiff of caramel and green apple. Definitely one of the most bold and brazen manzanillas I've ever encountered.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slightly oily.

Palate: Shockingly genteel on the palate considering the nose. The phenolics and flor are still there, but with the volume knob turned way down and balanced by a smooth almond nuttiness and some vinous apple-y fruit. The finish is the star, passing through multiple phases of savory, rich, phenolic, and sweet after you swallow, and going on and on and on. My one knock is that it's a bit limp while actually in the mouth---not a lot of acid energy and for whatever reason the flavor intensity doesn't really hit until the finish.

Really enjoyed this. Packed with character and intensity, and the finish is something special. The labels on these are wonderful, too, by the way.

  • From a "Vertical" of different sacas.
Still fresh and young, despite the noticeable development (rounder, fatter and spicier). Lots of (quite spicy) curry. More delicate in texture than the others and much more flowery (chamomile). With less intensity, yet quite long.

  • This is awesome. It's so rich and smoky I feel like I just took up smoking.

  • A private lunch (Restaurant El Celler de Can Roca ***, Girona, Spain): Excellent Manzanilla, very floral nose with lovely depth, hay, oyster shell; dry but smooth palate; amazing length, finishes with the purest green olive flavour.
