Giant Wine Sale & Tasting 8/11/2012 (Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC): Typically I am skeptical about Pinot Noir produced in non traditional Pinot areas. This one will make you a believer. You notice some Italian style influence, but it really works. Was still skeptical with the not typical, too much candy nose. Darker color than we expect. Some smokey, earthy, cherry on the nose, that started to make things interesting. When it crossed the palate, you are in Pinot country. Black cherry, blackberry, and raspberry in just the right viscosity. Nicely integrated fruit oak and alcohol. Grippy little tannins. Lively, appropriate, balancing acidity that seems more mature than the age of this offering. Just a hint of those secondary flavors that can be troublesome. Blackberry, graphite, and vanilla on the finish.
