Still a youthful purple colour but a bit of age has taken away any primary jamminess which is good. Typical Oz Shiraz, ripe fruit a bit monolithic but ok for midweek drinking.

Deep purple in color, this wine (96% Shiraz/4% Viognier) reveals focused blueberry, blackberry and star anise on the nose. The mouth feel brings full but subtly sweet tannins and undertones of black pepper and more blueberry. The finish comes off a bit hot, clearly showing the 14.5% abv, taking away from the nice blue/black fruits.
Purchased for $16US, this is a well made wine from a quality producer whose wines I've enjoyed over the years. This particular bottle seemed a little out of balance with the heat from the alcohol overwhelming the fruit and acidity at the end.

Has a good aroma, although it seems a little small (that may be because of the serving temp). I find mostly dark fruit, with some bright berries that appears as it opens up, and a little oak that comes out. The flavor is initially quite sharp on the tongue. It smooths out a little given time to opens up. The fruit is strong in the flavor, same as in the aroma, and last into a good finish. It has medium tannins, which also last into the finish.
Tasted at about 65°F.

Nice expression of Shiraz from Barossa. Lots of backbone, yet enough time in the bottle to smooth out the rough edges. Great value at $14.

Interesting blend. The Viognier seems to give it a bit more acidity and roundness than a standard Shiraz. Enjoyable!
