Not familiar with this varietal, but got this in the winery club shipment. Smells of "grape." That's it. Grape, and wood. No complexity there. A bit like Welsh's. Just grape. It is indeed tannic, but not as much as I might have thought given, well, its name. They're reasonably smooth if a bit lingering. Tastes a bit like zinfandel, actually, but with more rust/iron on the palate. Hides its 15% abv well. Might be more interesting with age, but to me it's very one dimensional and definitely not value at ~$25.
