I laughed as I came here to write this note and saw Studleyray's recent note. Although my specific takes did not include some of the things he picked up, my general impression was very similar. Smells and tastes of modern right bank bdx. Would not have guessed Rioja in a blind tasting if I were allowed 5 guesses. Weird. Not a bad wine, but not at all what I was expecting or in the mood for.

Well, "try again in a few years" and here we are. Still a dense coloring to this one with ruby edges. Smells like a Bordeaux with dark fruits, earth, and strong graphite minerality. Medium body, medium (+) acid and finish, and kinda tastes like a Bordeaux too with flavors of dark fruits, lemon, spice, and notable minerals here too. Tannins still have some grip. I'm down to the last and thinking to save it a few more years.

I agree that this is more new world in style, but tasted blind would still rate well and has a good QPR. Refined without the raw or earthy edges, has red and black fruit, integrated tannins and balanced alcohol. Medium length finish.

Consistent with previous bottle. Very good. Need to lay off and be patient.
