  • At Domaine Bussion Charles with my wife and SS. While tasting the 2011s and 2012s with Patrick Esa, he generously took one of the older bottles in his cellar and uncorked it. The color was dark gold, close to a lovely mature orange. The nose was absolutely amazing! A little oxidative but filled with hazelnets, orange peel, buttered toast and oil. The palate was very fresh for a 34 year old wine. Again, nutty and buttery notes, lots of fat, manuka honey and richness in such an elegant way. The finish was almost never ending, and the flavours just stayed at the tip of my tongue. 1980 was Patrick's first Meursault Charmes and we really appreciated the romance of it all. Drinking the winemaker's first vintage along with him in his cellar, chatting about Burgundies, it was a lovely experience. But no doubt about this wine, it was an absolute beauty, mature white Burgundy at its best.

  • Good golden colour; botrytised, honeyed nose, barley sugar; fresh palate with lovely richness. Still fresh! Very silky and textural. Very enjoyable at 32 years old. Very long.
