  • This is a single vineyard, single vintage oloroso. Javier hidalgo kindly gave me two bottles to taste. I am very familiar with his old olorosos however these come unfiltered so don't be surprised by the very obvious sediment.

I am a great fan of sherry not only because they are seriously underrated and frankly unbelievable value for money but because sherries tend to exaggerate what fine wine is all about. Only recently someone asked me what complexity in a wine was all about. I gave him an oloroso and a bulk red wine and it was immediately obvious!

Anyway this oloroso is unbelievably complex. It's all the usual aromas and flavours of old oloroso but the finish and complexity is stunning. These are rare bottlings and I am not sure they are readily available . As producers keep telling me keeping wines for such a long time and having to sell them at very modest prices is not good business. However until fashion dictates otherwise us wine lovers will continue to buy these amazing bargains.
