A superb example of how California can make Syrah that is a good ringer for dark, rich, well structured, elegant, and ageworthy Northern Rhone Syrah. The key that Brassfield uses is to plant the grape vines into mountainous vineyards 1,800 high that are much cooler than the valleys and have volcanic soil. This 16 year old wine is opaque to the edge in a half inch pour and has high acidity that is lively and refreshing, firm drying tannin, concentrated blackberry and blueberry fruit, all of which is powerful, mouth coating, integrated, and long lasting.
