A nose resonant of plums. Still intense fruit although starting to fade a bit. Cranberries, plums, warm spices. The tannins are firm and could use a couple of years to resolve, but will the fruit last that long? Good acidity, decent balance. A bit of heat on the long finish. It's held up very well, but I'd drink up over the next year.

I tried a 2000 Siduri Van der Kamp the other night and it was dead as a doornail. Not this 2001 Cargasacchi. Bright red in color with almost no fading at the edges. A lovely nose of tart cherries and warm spice. Vibrant fruit, black cherries, strawberries, cocoa, spice. Firm tannins that still need 2 or 3 years to soften. Nice acidity, good balance. A long, spicy finish. Nice stuff even at 18 years old and it still has a few years ahead of it. I'm delighted I still have a couple of bottles in the cellar.

Dark in the glass (unfiltered), dark fruit on the nose, earthy and surprisingly full-bodied and rich, with chocolate on the long finish. Some alcohol showing through. An excellent and delicious bottle.
