  • Open for a couple days, but this held up beautifully. Aromas of Turkish delight, honey, apricot jam, apple jelly, a little lychee, touches of smoke and petrichor. Dry and silky on the palate, full-bodied, a touch of tannin, floral and candied inner perfume, great freshness, beautifully integrated acid. Long spicy and floral finish, lush layers of cooked and candied fruit fruit, refreshing and easy-going for such a rich and perfumed wine. Certainly bold, not a restrained wine, but restrained and elegant as full-bodied Gewurz goes. Would not have pegged this as almost 40 years old. Still has plenty of life, and I have to imagine you could hold it for another 3 to 5.

  • Wow. Cork was wet almost to top but intact. perfect fill. Color showed light gold but not indicating much age.
The nose of this was telltale gewurtz, with florality and perfume and a definite note of dill. Swishing this shows a core of acid and some alcohol that are keeping this lively. Sipping shows total harmony, great balance and a dense oily mouthfeel - delicious wine w lengthy unctuous finish.
Served blind at an alsace tasting and no-one pegged this as almost 40 years old. In fairness i wouldn't have either. Really a remarkable example of an old white wine being smashing. Reading the other reviews from other vintages this was a hole in one!
