  • Fruity and fun, quite a decent marsannay. Obviously not a true competitor with the Cotes D'or, but nonetheless provided a great break between big tannic bordeaux's I had that night. Light and appealling, young and spirited wine. Not bad for the price, at all.

  • Burgundy 2012 Day 6: Visit to Derey Frères (Couchey, Burgundy): Not bad, but this was probably my least favourite of the line-up. The nose here was the most savoury of the 2011 wines, with a really meaty, peppery notes, along with a deeper layer of violets, plums and blackberry aromas. The palate was bright and light, with some of that salty meat, earth and black peppery spice in the background, and some light-bodied black fruit drifting along in front. It was a nicely refreshing wine up to that point, but what I did not quite like was the rather obvious extraction on the wines, with rather mouth-puckering tannins on the midpalate, leading to an edge of green hardness in the finish. May get better with time, or may not - depending on whether the fruit can outlast the tannins. At the moment, this one needs some food to soften. Not really bad, but not great.
