  We had this merlot at a wine bar in Venice in 2011 and lugged a bottle back to the States. We opened it and drank over the course of two days and, while it improved on the second day, I now believe that atmosphere was a significant part of its original appeal. Big mouthful, very fruit forward (especially upon opening), not a lot of complexity. It felt more balanced (and less juicy) on day 2. A perfectly fine bottle, just not the celebratory "wow" that we had anticipated.
