  • Minimum intervention Chenin Blanc, fermented with indigenous yeasts. 14,5% alcohol. Served blind.

Medium-pale golden yellow. Somewhat developed and slightly oxidative nose with aromas of honey, some nuttiness, light smoky nuances, a little bit of woolly character, a hint of green apples and apple juice and a touch of butter. The wine is rich, round and somewhat oily - even a bit heavy - on the palate with complex and quite mature flavors of roasted nuttiness, aged sweet toasty character, some oxidative bruised apple, light woolly notes, a little bit of ripe peach and a hint of sweet gummy bear candies. The acidity feels moderately high, giving the wine good balance and structure. The finish is rich, complex and pretty long with ripe and a bit developed flavors of yellow stone fruits, some nuttiness, light creamy notes, a little bit of woolly character, a hint of bruised apple and a touch of Bassett's wine gums.

A fine and sophisticated wine that took us quite a while to locate it correctly. Once located, however, it didn't take us much time to guess the variety correctly. Everyone was surprised how developed the wine seemed - based on its apparent maturity, all the people guessed it to be much older. I'm not certain, but it might be that the wine has actually passed its plateau of maturity and is now on the decline. I really wouldn't recommend aging this wine any longer, as I can't see the benefit in it. The wine is terrific now and I can imagine the only direction the wine is going to go from here is down.
