Deep ruby color. First on the nose was black fruit, tomato, spices, and black licorice. As it opened up, got more dried flowers, saw dust, bark. Tasting revealed grassy notes and peppery leafy greens. Medium body on the palate (expected a thicker texture based on age, color, and nose but it drank lighter than expected). In fact, it still had kind of a juvenile acid pop and hard-edged tannin, not rounded. On day 2, the nose became darker - leather, rubber, tobacco, dead plants; the acid and tannin had softened but there was still a green vegetal note lingering in the background; more complex. On day 3, the wine had faded; the characteristics were still there but limp.

Tried quite a few LaMadrid wines and never really liked them but apparently I didn’t wait long enough. This 2011 is great. Fruit has faded a bit which has brought out a lot of vegetal character.

Drank a while back, so no detailed notes. Thought this was a fantastic Chilean Cab for the price ($13 or so). It was veering toward over-ripe, but wasn't, and didn't exhibit any of the green notes I typically find in Chilean Cab and Merlot. The oak was very integrated at this point and it was just really enjoyable to drink. I would buy again to have on hand for weeknights that call for a nice and easy Cab.
