  • Popped and poured. This wine is in a great place right now. Dark dark inky red. Very powerful nose (no swirling needed) with emphatically typical tempranillo character including the sort of smoky bitter chocolate note so characteristic of the grape, with layers of oolong tea and prunes as well. Palate is similar, with a lot of extraction-very rich-decent acidity, fine-grained tannins, and moderate finish. This is just what one would imagine "America does tempranillo" would be like, and not in a bad way. In an uncharitable mood I might criticize is as "a bit obvious", but really, who cares, as long as it tastes good. I enjoyed it more on its own than with food. A very decent value at the Full Pull price of $15, but more than that and I think it would be outdone by Spanish RDD or Rioja offerings, but only because Spanish wines are so often ridiculously underpriced.
