  • I can understand why some would not appreciate this wine, as there is a little funk on the nose and palate, but to me , this is a real treat. This is a prototypical light colored wine whose taste profile defies the color. Also, this wine is 4 1/2 years off the vine with plenty of time to mature and start to develop some secondary flavors. Has the same, see your 2 fingers color we get with good Pinot. Some graphite and earthy stuff on the nose with the black cherry. The fruit has a really nice, but fading, maraschino cherry, backed up with some Mount Morency tart cherry. Still loads of vibrant acidity. Not quite medium bodied. Mature, grippy little tannins. Has the beginnings of layered complexity, but doesn't quite get there. The finish leaves the impression of a mature but still acidic wine that does not need big fruit to express itself, and is still developing some caramel and road tar secondary flavors.
