  • This wine has calmed down a lot in the 4 intervening years of this bottle and the last. Now, one can sense the structure and nice balance in the Shiraz, which was not possible in its huge, jammy past. This is more to my style than it presented back in '16.

  • Made from a blend of 2 Barossa vineyards one 80yo and the other 85yo vines , then into American Oak for 20 months , its sister Remus is from Eden Valley and uses French Oak . Natural cork 14.5% alc
Colour deep red impenetrable with black hues and vivid purples edges 15/15
Nose ina word intense, on pouring I tot he glass aromas of rich plush fruits filled the room, very layered nose black currant, plum, dark cherry, baked apple florals of violets and deep red rose, oak spice coconut, cedar, cinnamon nutmeg, pepper. Perfect balance between fruit and oak 29/30
Palate full bodied, flavours follow on from the nose, rich ripe plush fruits , liquorice, chocolate super long finish still has a little tannin grip with balanced acidity throughout the palate 42/44
Overall first time for me having a relatively aged Romulus, only just into its drinking window , amazing nose but that is what old Barossa Vine wines are renowned for, you tend to forget just how good these old vine wines are . Goodness knows how long this will live for probably another 20 years plus 11/11

  • Appearance: deep ruby
Nose: medium plus intensity, violet, chocolate, black cherry, licorice, kirsch, prune, baked apple, raisin, black pepper, toast, nutmeg, cedar. It’s developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium tannins (smooth ripe tannins), high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity, flavours align with nose. The finish is medium plus.
Overall, it’s a very good wine. Can drink now, but has potential for ageing. Typical Barossa but a bit too ripe.

  • An epic style of wine. Reading some of the reviews prior to opening had me both curious and concerned. The American oak is massive and leads the way. Though the acid cuts through just enough to keep it bearable. This is one to put to sleep for ten years as an each way bet. Time will tell if it all meshes together into something special.

  • Someone tried to fill two bottles of wine in just one bottle. There is too much of everything in here ...
