  • BaBa 05-10 dinner session at Bar Cicheti.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour Legs.
Nose medium+ intensiy, with aroms of leathery animal, earth, hint of ferrous iron. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), puckery high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of savoury earth, leathery animal meat, dark red cherries, dark red plums, whips of spice. Long finish with lots of structure and spice.
Excellent quality. Big and clearly built to age. Will be better if aged for longer.

  • Opened the bottle to slow ox today at noon for dinner tomorrow. But I just had to pour a very small pour to see what it’s all about at opening. Beautiful crimson brown and the fruit could be smelled as soon as the bottle was lifted up to pour it. Dark red cherry with brown sugar sweet crushed berries and some pine cone. It initially attacks you with tannins but it seems that there is so much fruit underneath that it just can’t hide. Cherries spring flowers honey a bit of tar. But you can just feel the power building. Wow. Can’t wait to see what 24 hours will do. 24 hours on - the nose screams cherries but you can feel the tannic power that so present in the wine. Hopefully a few hours in a decanter will help it calm down. Even so this wine need at least another 10 years and will probably last for decades. There is just so much material here it’s unbelievable. Hopefully for will help it to tonight. I’m going to hold the rest of the case. After 4 hours in a decanter this has morphed into one fantastic wine. Still in its very earl development but what a drinking experience. The cherries overwhelm most everything else but a bit of flowers tar and underbrush are peeking out. I can’t imagine what this will be like in 10 years but not sure I will be able to keep my hands off.

  • A special case that was made in honor of the 30th anniversary of Barolo Bric dël Fiasc, vinified as a single vineyard Barolo. Barolo Bric del Fiasc has been vinified as RISERVA only in the following vintages: 1978 - 1979 - 1980 - 1982 - 2008.

Really forward with intensity and power with wet leather belt, still smoky, exotic spices and dark concentrated berries. Full-bodied wine with rawness in the mouthfeel with blue / purple fruit, leather, bonfire, balsamic vinegar and tar. Long complex and tough finish. Riserva in a cooler vintage that will need time in the cellar. But a structured and very interesting Barolo. 94p. With utter potential.

  • The ‘08 BdF Riserva is a showstopper, as literally the entire tasting group stopped here to reflect on its understated beauty, refinement and balance. The multifaceted layers upon layers on the nose were amazing, showing a feminine and floral mix of fresh cherries, roses, dried flowers, sweet herbs, exotic spices, crushed stone, and undergrowth. On the palate, silky textures caressed the senses, yet seemed weightless all the same, as a core of fresh red fruit, plum and citrus ushered in fine-grain tannin. Inner floral tones, fresh cherry and minerals seemed to last for over a minute on the finish, along with residual tannin that promised many more years of development.

  • 2008 Barolo Tasting at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): Thick rich extracted. A lot of vanilla on the finish. Hard to judge at this stage, but I think it has potential. This is a special edition riserva in honor of the winery's 30th anniversary. All profits from this wine will go to charity. 2500 bottles made plus some mags and 3L.
