Wine and Food Matching @ Ben's: Iron, smoke and plenty of stalky undergrowth. Fairly resolved on the palate, with the remnants of tannins lightly there. The acid may be fading a bit and the wine is rather soft around the edges as a result - a touch of acid and fruit brightness would lift it but I think it is holding well and I liked it more than the last time I encountered it.

A lovely complex nose of sweet plums, charcuterie, gentle sweet and smoky oak, leather and camphor. On the palate this wine is very light on its feet yet mouthfilling. Not as sweet as the bouquet suggests it might be and has a nice acid spine running through the length of the palate. Tannins are still present in decent quantity and round the wine out nicely. Good length and it finishes dry, slightly bitter but with a touch of greenness.

Bannockburn Vertical Tasting - Chardonnay, Pinot & Shiraz (Royal Automobile Club, Sydney): Some green under-ripe characters as well as sappy, stalky notes. Good texture and elegance, but thins out somewhat as it approaches the finish.
