Perhaps the only red of the lunch which tends towards the spicy, savoury end of the shiraz spectrum, this avoids sweetness, manages to ticks all the medium boxes for acid tannin, weight and so on, and manages a medium-length finish. But it can’t escape its identity crisis, which seems to bedevil all multi-region wines at this price point. In general, they’re fantastic drinks, if you’re not that interested in wine. But if you are, they’re really hard to pin down to anything in particular. They taste good, but manufactured somehow. What is this meant to be? you find yourself asking. That’s the trouble when trophies go to such wines...
