Am I the only one that likes California wine from cool vintages? This was exceptional and surprisingly teetering on old world with its savory character, yet anchored in deep red fruit. The nose shows undeniable fruit quality with Blankiet's signature luxury oak and lots of cassis and typical California red fruit. The mouth feel was very slinky and mercury in feel. This viscosity gave it the ability to coat the palate and leave a very long dry finish. As we hit zone 2 of the bottle, the wine had clearly transitioned into sweet tobacco and showed roasted herbs, while retaining fruit depth and weight. Consumed over 4 hours, the 3rd stage showed some green pinot notes with much rusticity, so that took a point away for me. I drank this next to a coravin glass of Domaine de Chevalier 2014 to get a sense of the tobacco depth, and this was right up there if not 1/2 notch ahead. Lovely Blankiet from a stepchild vintage. Ready to drink

This wine is delightful. Merlot has the silkiest texture of all wine grapes, as this wine displays. Aromatically, it is a pleasant blend of cherry, chocolate, and cedar. There were moments when I forgot what I was drinking and thought this wine was pinot due to the pretty cherry flavors. This wine has a perfect composition of fruit weight, tannins, and acidity for drinking now, though I should note that it gained desirable weight with time in the decanter. Not very powerful or complex, but one of the more “simply delicious” wines I’ve drunk in recent memory.

Tasted blind, guessed Right-Bank Bordeaux, ~10 years old. Silky smooth, chocolate-y texture; rich, ripe plums and black cherries; a touch of cigar-box-like pyrazines. Delicious and easy to drink. Drink now.
I like this estate.

Needed a couple hours of air to open up. Good fruit, solid tannin but balance was a bit off and finish was short. Still a nice wine however.

Lighter and softer than expected. A reflection of an off vintage where magic wasn’t pulled off.
